Read Filtering and Cleaning


Reads are ‘cleaned’ to improve average quality and reduce the volume of erroneous data. This can include removal of poor or biased sequence, ambiguous bases, read duplicates, homopolymers that form at the edge of a flow cell and adapter dimers. Other filtering can include deduplication, enforcing a minimum read length and removing low quality sequence (low Q score).

VIB Nucleomics Core started off in 1999 as the VIB MicroArray Facility (MAF), a service facility to provide expert services in expression analysis.
